STOP HIDING IN THE OFFICE ON FACEBOOK
How many Youtube Video’s have you watched this week? How many “How To Start A Business” videos spew mountains of advice at you in a 7 day period? slapping you in the chops all the live long day! . Now I watch loads of these things and they have their place in time. I mostly pop them on in the morning when I get to the office for some motivation and if anything stands out from someone I perceive to be a credible source such as Dan Lok, I will write it down on and pin it to the blue board next to my desk.
But be aware, there is a trap here. The laptop trap, where you can spend hours, days ,weeks and months watching Youtube Video’s then posting on social media and doing Live Facebook videos that are watched by the same 6 people ,and due to our attention span, its effectiveness is very low. Don’t get me wrong, I am writing this as much as a reminder for myself as anything. And the irony is that this blog post will be going out on social media, so I see this blog as a bit of a rant and an offload, mixed in with a gentle kick up the arse to get out of the office and actually meet people!
Thats right, the best business starts with relationships and relationships are always going to be best cemented face to face. A skype video or DM on social is great as a catch up or introduction, but it is meeting people face to face and actually being in the same room that will cement the relationship in stone, be that for better or for worse.
Here at Success4.com our new goal is to get out and about more, we have done incredible work laying the foundations of the company online but now its more important for us to be out and about spreading the word of our various projects into the real world.
People need each other, that is a fact, and people like to be near to those they love, like and care for. So if you have a great idea for a business, and have done all of the ground work online, the website is done, the social media is ticking over, the advertising online is in place, then it is time to get up off that office chair and go out and meet people.
As a side note there are many people who go to networking events like its AA or some other 12 Step Programme, they get addicted to going to these meetings, talking about what they are “Working on” and leaving like they have achieved something, with very little follow up if any. Network meetings can be great but the clue is in the name NET-WORK , it’s work and it should lead to more work. So make sure you go to these events with a solid product, a presence online that ticks over nicely with great content and tell people about it, leave them your card and make sure that you have what you say you have on the website and social media pages and most importantly that you can deliver the service you say you can.
So make it your mission to get out of the office more, to go and meet people who you think might want to work with you or buy your services. It like writing an amazing stage production and then not going out of the theatre to tell people about it in person, Facebook adds are great but they don’t connect the way a face to face meeting does, they never have and they never will.
