THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A F**K – MARK MANSON
In a world that is avalanched in self help books, self help courses and so much advice from both highly qualified and experience individuals in their chosen field (and many not so experienced) the noise can be deafening, and finding anything useful or even applicable to your own situation can be incredible difficult not to mention confusing.
So it is fantastic when you come across a book that really resonates with you, one that has practical advice than is applicable to your life situation right then and there. I have recently read two books which were fantastic for me, for two different reasons. The first one is Evan Carmichael’s “Your One Word” which has helped us clarify our mission and our goal here at Success4. The second book is one that myself and our Founder Mark stumbled upon whilst we waiting for our cheese burgers to be nuked on a recent film shoot. The book is called “The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck” written by Mark Manson.
Once in a while you pick up a book, here a song, watch a film or read a blog story that really does change the way you not only see the world around you, but your place in it. For someone like myself who suffers from the pain the arse that is Pure OCD (Pure O) this book is incredible. Mark writes with humour, compassion and out right honesty about how Not Giving A Fuck can help you, but how it is also not the same as not caring about anyone or anything. This book is about choosing your Fucks wisely because you only have so many in you before you drive yourself mental.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has high levels of Anxiety, OCD or Pure OCD. I actually believe this book should be prescribed to those of us with Pure OCD, to those people who are chronic people pleasers. Mark writes about knowing when something is your responsibility and when it is not, and how you can practice Not Giving A Fuck until you actually feel you don’t. Because you not only understand intellectually that it is not your responsibility to make sure everyone else in the world is happy, but you believe it and therefore feel it. This then releases the burden of guilt that you hammer yourself over the head with every waking hour of your life.
This book is fantastic, to the point, funny and simply put ‘its the truth. So for anyone who feels like they need to apologies everyday, need to make sure they have not offended or upset anyone all the time, then this book is for you.
Here is an incredible interview with Mark by Lewis Howes of The School of Greatness.
