Richard has worked at BBC Voice, managing the television studio as well as running Appletree Media Norwich which made documentaries and promotional video's for social services. He also worked in broadcast Radio at BBC Radio Norfolk and Star Radio in Cambridge. He now manages the online content for Success4.com as well as creating the video and podcast content for Success4 and Success4's clients.

He also mentors on his Feed Your Social Media Monster training course which he designed and delivers to help success4 clients to creative innovative and creative content for their social media pages.

WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING – SOCIAL MEDIA MINDSET

Rome was not built in a day, they say…..But they were laying brick every hour. In a world where re tweets, views, subscribers , likes and followers are the cocaine of the everyman (or women) when you start a new venture, project or business you will feel like your rummaging through the bins for something to sell at Secondhand land in exchange to Likes!….

“Come on you fuckers, like my video about how to build your own business…even though this is the only fucking business I’ve built, and its going pretty shit because you wont fucking like my video”!

This is what goes through your head (my head). Now personally I been working as a video produced for around 20 years and gaining any traction online is hard. Building an audience is painfully slow (unless you have some lovely boobs or shiny abs on Instagram, or put the word Orgasm in you @ handle) so its great to watch people such as Gary Vaynerchuk and Mark Manson to find out that Gary was building a business quietly for years before anyone started to watch Wine Library, and Mark was writing his blog at 4am in the morning for 8 years before his blog reached the heights of today, and he was able to write and publish one of my favourite books “The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck”.

Also on a side note: one great piece of understanding you will come to is that YOUR AUDIENCE IS NOT NECESSARILY THE SAME AS YOUR CUSTOMER!…so that means!, yes you can actually still run a profitable business even though you only have 120 followers on your Twitter account. This is good to know isn’t it. Hold that feeling and rest upon the safety it beholds you.

So please do yourself a favour and don’t expect many to read your blogs when you first start off or you video views to shoot through the roof from day one. Unless of course you are producing something of shock value (Kid gets kicked up the arse by a horse) then you will have to work for your audience, find your niche, hone your message and figure out what value you want to offer your readers, viewers and followers. This way , the ones that come will mostly stay………STYLE OVER CONTENT.
